An arcade’s prize room must contain prizes that motivate guests to continue to play redemption games, writes Lee Wild.

Redemption must have quite the ego. Often referred to as the “saviour of the arcade” and the “bedrock of the industry,” it could be forgiven for feeling a little full of itself.

Arcades across the land are filled with these delightful devices, that spit out tickets and reward players for their continued play, and while it is often said that children love the mere act of winning tickets, we all know that the reason they love it is for what those tickets represent. They are a reward for a good performance at their favourite game, a chance to take home a treasured memento from a thrilling day at the arcade. Indeed, would redemption be as big as it is were it not for the prizes? The games themselves are fun, but ask any redemption player what their focus is, and they’re sure to have their eyes on the prize.
