A BBC Panorama investigation has raised concerns over the ADIPS (Amusement Device Inspection Procedures Scheme), which governs the safety of funfair, FEC and theme park rides.

The programme found that there had been 3,188 reported injuries in Britain between April 2014 and March 2024, with 350 in 2023/24, in a Freedom of Information inquiry with the Health and Safety Executive.

The investigation outlined some of the stories behind accidents and went on to describe the role of ADIPS, highlighting one inspector and his company that it raised doubts about.

It also questioned the quality of safety measures in some popular rides, citing worries emanating from the industry and the inspectorate.

The programme, which was aired on Monday evening, quoted ADIPS that accidents are rare and that the industry had a proud safety record. HSE, said Panorama, is currently reviewing its industry safety guidance to decide whether it is "fit for purpose."
