One of the most iconic video games characters, Pac-Man, turned 40 years old last week.
The news was pointed out by players’ site Arcade Heroes. Friday, May 22, was apparently the anniversary for the Bandai Namco character who almost began life as Puck Man in 1980.
Namco created the character that went on to make it big in the US under the Midway brand and then on across the world while Atari had the brand for the home games market. Ms Pac-Man was to follow the next year, 1981.
The two names were jointly to become the most popular arcade video game ever, with production hitting 100,000 units each.
