The historic Patterson Bowling Center in Baltimore has closed its doors.

The 10-lane venue, which had been open since 1927, is set to be converted into an apartment building, reports The Baltimore Sun.
Patterson Bowling Center was recognised as the country’s oldest continuously operating bowling alley, and the last duckpin-only bowling alley in downtown Baltimore, the city generally credited as the birthplace of the once popular variety of bowling.
National Duckpin Blowing Congress executive director Laura Bowden described losing the venue as “a huge loss” as it was “the last vestige of duckpin in the heart of Baltimore.”
A local councillor is trying to prevent the closure, describing it as a “historic, important community asset” and residents have posted on social media that the venue should be saved, but no solution has yet been announced.
