The Southern Mall in Ohio, US, has announced a partnership with the DeBartolo-York family to design a new four-acre athletic and entertainment venue, Business Journal has reported.

Demolition of a Sears store began over the weekend and the venue, to be called DeBartolo Commons, will be designed in its place.

The plans include a 37,000sq.ft indoor mini-golf centre, as well as new food and beverage offerings.

Lou Conforti, CEO of Washington Prime Group, which owns the mall, said the venue will also include a new row of retail, a bandstand and a stage.

The demolition will continue over the next few months and the new space is expected to be ready by autumn 2020.
