A new National Gambling Policy has been issued in South Africa, following approval by the South African cabinet.

It covers casinos, horse racing, betting, limited payout machines (AWPs) and bingo and is designed to update the National Gambling Act of 2004.
Jeff Radebe, minister for performance monitoring and evaluation, said that the new policy sets up a fresh gambling regulator for the country and “proposes amendments to the regulatory structural framework of the gambling boards and strengthens the control mechanisms to minimise the abuse of gambling.”
The present National Gambling Board will be replaced by the National Gambling Regulator, which will report to the Department of Trade and Industry.
