National Bingo Week began on Monday of this week, marking the start of celebrations and promotions at clubs across the UK.

It began as National Bingo Day on June 27, 2021, and despite the depredations of the pandemic was a huge success. It has now grown to the extent that this week 88 per cent of all UK bingo sites are combining online for five days of bingo-fuelled fun.

As the week got under way, the extent of the business today was outlined by Elizabth Varley, solicitor at gambling licensing company Poppleston Allen, who said: “The closure of premises during the Covid-19 pandemic sparked an unprecedented challenge for bingo halls up and down the country.

"But like many things after the pandemic, it was an evolution rather than a proper ending and the industry remained as resilient as ever.

"The rise in popularity of bingo bottomless brunches and themed bingo nights has only increased since then, with many pubs, bars and event spaces hosting themed bingo events.”
