Nineteen members of staff have been arrested at an amusement arcade in Pabedan Township in the Yangon region of Myanmar and are being sued under section 14(a) of the country's gambling act.

The families of the staff held a press conference where they stated that the 19 have been denied bail. They called for action, claiming it is unreasonable to sue the staff instead of the owner.

Advocate Maung Maung Soe, pro bono lawyer for the defendants, said: “It’s wrong to arrest and charge these kids under section 14(a) of the gambling act. The owner said he had a licence. The employees got the job through official procedures. They were just doing what they were told.”

Police raided the arcade on January 11 and arrested 19 employees and 48 players, according to the employees. The players were granted bail.
