From just three per cent in 2000, the percentage of women entering Germany's 6,000 gaming arcades rose to 10 per cent in 2006.
The figure for 2010 has doubled to 20 per cent and some of the major operators are now reporting that the figure is as high as 30 per cent in the largest and more modern of the newly-opened locations.
The statistic is one of the most surprising to emerge from the annual figures, which are released each year just ahead of the IMA show, which takes place in Düsseldorf in January.
InterGame also learns that the number of AWP machines located in arcades in Germany has risen from 104,000 in 2006 to 138,000 this year, mostly through the changes in the law four years ago which permitted 12 payout machines instead of 10 in each location.
The statistics from Germany - not yet officially released - will also show that the cashbox in German arcades in 2000 was €3.1bn, falling to €2.75bn in 2006 and rising again to €3.34bn this year.
More information from Germany’s high-performing AWP business will be released in the annual German Special Issue in InterGame’s January 2011 issue.
