One of Japan's biggest video games has hit the UK market with a dedicated communal gaming space, which will run until September 1.

Monster Hunter: Freedom Unite is the latest game in the franchise and reached number 25 in the home console sales charts recently.

The game sees players completing quests to achieve glory and fashioning armour and weapons from the remains of slain monsters.

By opening up a communal area in cntral London, the event’s organisers are hoping that players will be enticed into playing co-operatively on their PSPs and follow Japanese trends of stopping by on their daily commute.

Capcom, the game’s publisher, said: "What makes Monster Hunter unique in that it is best played cooperatively. Players have to be physically close to play together, meaning that there is a real social element to the game.

"Players in Japan congregate everywhere, from parks to cafes to amusement arcades to on public transport. It is not unusual to see large huddles of kids in the park, all sitting together playing the game."
