A mall in the city of Independence, Missouri, US, is to open a new entertainment area.

Mall

This latest example of “retailtainment” in the Independence Centre is due to open at the end of the year in an attempt to increase footfall and enhance the customer experience. An existing carousel will be removed to make way for the new attractions.

The plans include climbing walls, a Rollglider aerial ride and three levels of rope courses. The District, an arcade game and ride area, will open on the lower level next to the mall’s food court.

In a statement, Cheryl Meyer, director of marketing and specialty leasing for Independence Centre, said the plan is to create a “fun, family-friendly environment that you can’t get sitting in front of a TV or on your phone.”
