Kenya’s tourism cabinet secretary has called for a zip-line to be installed across a major tourist attraction.

Najib Balala has called for a zip-line to be built over the crater of Mt Longonot, located south-east of Lake Naivasha in the Great Rift Valley, to increase tourist footfall.

The 2,776m tall volcano is already a big tourist attraction, but Balala says that a zip-line would help Kenya diversify from traditional safari and beach tourism.

Previous plans for a zip-line in the area were shelved when conservationists said that it could adversely affect the volcano’s delicate ecosystem.
