A private equity company is believed to be preparing an offer for several of Merlin Entertainments’ Sea Life aquariums.

The giant, UK-based entertainment company has over 40 aquariums in its portfolio, based in the UK, Europe, the US, Australia, New Zealand and Asia.
The three principal UK aquariums in London, Birmingham and Manchester are not thought to be in the acquisition plan, but other UK sites potentially are.
Epiris, a UK company, is believed to be the bidder for the venues. Merlin had already appointed investment bank Rothschild to look at potential sales of some of its aquariums earlier in the year.
