Officers from the Westminster Police Department in California, US, recently executed four search warrants and seized illegal copies of Merit Entertainment software from locations in Orange County. Local FBI agents and Merit Entertainment technicians assisted in carrying out the raids.

Three private homes were searched plus a warehouse belonging to Intelligames. Numerous records and components used to manufacture counterfeit Merit products were found, as were several counterfeit Merit games. Police also raided 25 cafes and coffee shops in the area, seizing 50 video game machines containing counterfeit Merit software.

Once investigations are completed the case will be forwarded to the Orange County District Attorney’s office for judicial review. Detectives will also confer with the US Attorney’s office to discuss federal trademark and copyright violations.

"We would like to thank the Westminster Police Department for their outstanding work," said Bob Fay, Merit’s director of government relations. "I have personally been involved in law enforcement for over 40 years and was really impressed with the professionalism and commitment to duty displayed by the Westminster Department."
