A Chinese court has sentenced Yan Xiancheng, owner of Chengtai Metal Hardware Factory based in Panyu, just outside of Guangzhou City in China, to three and a half years in prison for counterfeiting AMI Entertainment Megatouch games.
Bob Fay, director of government relations for AMI Entertainment, commented: "This is a major breakthrough - companies who manufacture copies of Megatouch need to take notice that they could end up in prison."
Chengtai was found to have been engaging in counterfeiting games from various international brands since August 2006. The company has also set up B2B/B2C web pages for advertising its counterfeit products. Chengtai’s Megatouch games were exported to several jurisdictions including Russia, Malaysia, Singapore and various countries in the Middle East.
"The Chinese authorities were professional throughout and rejected protectionism which arose during the handling of the case. Baker & McKenzie did a superb job of coordinating the investigation and assisting the Chinese government with the prosecution."
