The mega-project Qiddiya is being used to boost Saudi Arabia’s bid to host the Asian Games in 2030.

Qiddiya

The date coincides with the Vision 2030 project undertaken by the Saudi Government to turn the country into a premier tourism destination. The huge project, destined for the desert south of the capital, Riyadh, is being put together by the Qiddiya Investment Company on behalf of the Saud authorities.

This week the company welcomed the Olympic Council of Asia's Asian Games Evaluation Committee to its headquarters to showcase the full offerings that the destination will provide when it opens.

The delegation toured the Welcome Centre with the Riyadh 2030 Asian Games bid committee and was given the chance to explore the interactive assets that explain Qiddiya’s master plan and key facilities in detail. Mike Reininger, CEO, gave the delegation an overview presentation.

The visit is part of the wider tour of the kingdom to assess how Riyadh 2030 would deliver "a vibrant, modern, world-class games that would unify Asia in a festival of sport." It will also help in the transformation of the Saudi society.

If KSA is successful in its bid to host the game in 2030, Qiddiya would provide multiple world-class venues for the event along with the Athlete’s Village.

A decision on the destination for the games will be taken next month.
