Senators in the US have proposed a bill forcing retailers to accept cash.

In positive news for ATM operators, trade magazine RePlay reports that the Senate will be presented with bill S.4145, sponsored by North Dakota Senator Kevin Cramer and New Jersey Senator Robert Menendez.
The two senators, from opposite sides of the house, are taking on a bill that began in the House of Representatives with 43 co-sponsors. The bill would make it law that cash would have to be accepted.
About 20 per cent of US households have limited or no access to checking or savings accounts and six per cent have no bank at all.
Once it becomes law, the measure would make it illegal to refuse to take cash or to even to post a notice stating that cash is not acceptable.
