Global cruise brand, Royal Caribbean is investing billions of dollars in a bid to transform its leisure, attraction and entertainment offerings.

CocoCay

The first works to be completed will be on one of its private islands, CocoCay in the Bahamas. US$200m will be poured into a waterpark which will include a child-focused obstacle course pool, a 1,600ft zip line that criss-crosses the island at up to 50ft high and features the only water landing in the Caribbean.

Looking down on all this will be a helium balloon, dubbed Up, Up and Away, which will float up to 450ft above the ground, providing for the highest vantage point in the Bahamas.

Set to complete in late 2019, CocoCay is part of the firm’s Perfect Day Island Collection, a series of exclusive private island destinations around the world. Further plans are in place for resorts in Asia, Australia and the Caribbean.

Serving these islands will be its fleet of ships. A $900m injection here will see a variety of improvements made across 10 vessels in four years. Planned attractions include Sky Pad, a virtual reality, bungee trampoline experience, arcades and glow in the dark laser tag.
