Mall, retail and leisure developer Majid Al Futtaim has opened its newest and largest multiplex, including a Magic Planet FEC, in the Saudi capital, Riyadh.
The grand opening event for the new entertainment complex was attended by HE Turki Abdullah Al-Shabanah, Saudi minister of media, representatives from the General Commission for Audiovisual Media and Quality of Life Programme, along with Majid Al Futtaim Group CEO Alain Bejjani and Majid Al Futtaim Properties CEO Ahmed Ismail.
Vox Cinemas Riyadh Front features 18 screens and 1,427 seats, bringing the operator’s total number of screens in the kingdom to 71 across seven multiplexes in Riyadh, Jeddah and Dammam. The Magic Planet family entertainment centre is integrated into the location and features rides for all ages, a trampoline park and soft play area.
In Saudi Arabia, the cinema chain has opened six multiplexes across three cities in 10 months as it continues to deliver its expansion plans.
“Opening this new cinema in the presence of HE Turki Abdullah Al-Shabanah demonstrates our commitment to the kingdom’s Vision 2030 Quality of Life programme and GCAM’s goals for the development of a vibrant cinema industry,” said Majid Al Futtaim Ventures country head, KSA, Mohamed Al Hashemi. “We strive to be a champion of local content and the Saudi talents who are working to develop it. Going beyond our presence as an exhibitor, as both a distributor and producer of content we have a great focus on homegrown Saudi films and filmmakers.
“Our 2019 openings don’t just stop here, as we aim to launch additional cinema complexes until year-end and our target for 2020 is to operate 200 screens across 22 locations. These ambitious targets propel us towards our longer-term commitment to open 600 screens across the kingdom by 2023,” he added.
The Riyadh Front multiplex features Gold, the chain’s gourmet dining and premium movie-watching experience with exclusive lounge and in-cinema service, Max for mega-screen blockbuster viewing and Kids, which is designed especially for young movie fans.
The new venue also features an extensive food and beverage portfolio including Top Bun, which serves sliders, wings and a variety of loaded fries, Pizza Al Taglio, a Roman-style pizza served by the square slice and Kitchen 35, a specialty coffee and artisanal food café.
Vox Cinemas is a key attraction of the Riyadh Front development, which is located on King Khaled Airport Road and is designed to be a luxury indoor and outdoor shopping destination with entertainment and offices.
