An indoor “vertical theme park” is due to open on July 31 in China.
Lionsgate Entertainment World in Novotown Hengqin, on Hengqin Island in Zhuhai, is an upscale FEC and will be themed around the TV and movie franchises from the US entertainment company, boasting dining, retail and attractions.
Lionsgate licences, The Twilight Saga, the Divergent series, Now You See Me, Gods of Egypt and Escape Plan are all popular in China and will feature heavily in the project operated by Village Roadshow and designed by The Thinkwell Group.
Plans for similar concepts in New York, US, and Madrid, Spain, have been cancelled after developer Parques Reunidos pulled out, citing difficulties with other indoor entertainment ventures in Spain not meeting expectations.
The attractions in the new Lionsgate Entertainment World will mainly involve simulators and virtual reality.
