The past 12 months has seen the opening of six amusement locations in India by the Australian-based Leisure and Allied Industries under its Timezone banner. Five are now operating and the sixth opens this month.

The move is the start of a five-year programme of expansion in India that will see LAI open 200 Timezones across the country. All located in shopping malls, the Timezones will operate in conjunction with major entertainment complexes such as cinemas, skating, bowling or other large-scale leisure activities.

LAI has opened an office in Mumbai where it has two locations, one of which covers 12,000sq.ft. The operations are part of a joint venture with major retailer Shoppers Stop, a department store chain, itself a part of the major industrial group Raheja.
