There is still no news of when juke boxes and background music systems will again be permitted to operate in pubs in Scotland.

Trade association BACTA this week reported that all music was banned from Scottish pubs three weeks ago as it was considered a transmission risk for Covid-19. This was, said BACTA CEO John White, "because people would talk loudly or shout over the music."

The First Minister of Scotland had promised "further research" and a small working group was looking at additional risk mitigation measures. The results should be expected soon.

White said: “We have made our case to all our contacts in Scotland for the earliest possible decision as this is yet another hammer-blow to operators who have been closed for nearly six months and were told that machines could be on – and then had to switch them off again.” He added: “Customers are deserting pubs as the atmosphere has been drained.”
