Up to 100 Imax screens will be opened in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, following the lifting of the ban on movie theatres in the country. The US entertainment company plans to partner with local companies over the next 10 years to introduce the format.

Imax

A preliminary deal with Imax has been signed by the KSA General Authority for Culture to support the movie industry in Saudi. The first Imax theatre to open in Saudi was launched last month by major FEC operator Majid Al Futtaim using its Vox chain. It will now partner with Imax for a minimum of four and a maximum of six new Imax theatres in KSA. The next in the series will be at the MAF Mall of Saudi and City Centre Ishbiliyah.

Vox is planning a total of 600 movie screens over the next five years in KSA. Imax is also talking to major US entertainment company AMC over further theatres.
