The commitment of the International Bowling Federation to quality in bowling standards is underlined by a new set of parameters for pinspotting.
The IBF is now certifying pinspotter technology with approval for string machines in sports leagues and tournaments globally. Venues wishing to use string machines have to comply with the new technical requirements. The standards will ensure consistency across string machine centres.
The IBF has extended membership to compliant string centres and recognises leagues, scores and averages bowling on string machines. Now operators have a choice of free-fall and string technology that operate to a single set of standards.
IBF CEO Andrew Oram said: "Covid-19 has had and continues to have, a significant impact on bowling centres throughout the world. Now more than ever, new technology is needed as a new option and consideration to help centres overcome the financial damage as a result of mandatory shutdowns and ongoing social distancing measures imposed in most countries. We could not sit still, desiring instead to help operators and investors with new ways to improve their operations to ensure long term growth and prosperity for the sport.”
He added: “The sport is not corrupted nor damaged or diminished by the inclusion of approved string centres and string technology as an additional playing field. An additional playing field will only make the game and the sport more engaging, attractive and challenging."
