The creation of one of the coin-operated amusement industry’s modern classic games, Virtual Rabbids: The Big Ride, was described at last week’s VR LBE Summit by its creators.

The virtual summit was addressed by Shannon Perell, LAI Games’ vice president of research and development, and Melanie de Riberolles, the new business director and project lead for the game at Ubisoft.

The two companies had worked together on the game that was the industry’s first attendant-free VR attraction. The two presenters jointly described how the project came together and what it took to create the award-winning game.

They outlined the challenges that they faced in creating a paradigm-shifting, unattended VR product that would offer a seamless experience to a wide audience.

Summit attendees could participate on a desktop computer or in VR, where exhibitors and attendees mixed using avatars with the ability to talk to one another. In the virtual environment, attendees could walk the exhibit hall and visit exhibitor booths or attend presentations.
