The largest arcade in Hong Kong is now the MK88, a centre in Mongkok with hundreds of gaming machines.
Designed as a casino, the location takes advantage of a legal action six years ago when a court ruled that as long as a cash bet is not laid and there is no cash payout. Multi-player automated gambling machines were quickly moved into arcades in Hong Kong.
But MK88 is the first to be designed as a casino. A typical Hong Kong arcade these days has 80 per cent gaming machines and 20 per cent amusement devices.
A full report on the Hong Kong arcade scene will be published in InterGame’s February issue.
