Fresh research into UK gambling habits suggests that half of the population enjoys a flutter and that one in four do so on a weekly basis, although mainly on the National Lottery.

Digital identity security specialist ID Crypt Global does not reveal how extensive its survey was in terms of the number of people interviewed, but suggests that the prevalence of gambling is due to the ease with which it can be enjoyed through online methods.
The company’s survey said that only five per cent of those surveyed gambled on a daily basis and 12 per cent on a monthly basis, but stakes were relatively low, with 73 per cent spending only up to £10 at a time.
Only one per cent said that they spend over £100 with each session. Only 18 per cent of players use physical outlets such as casinos or bookmakers shops, with 60 per cent gambling online.
The National Lottery and live sports led the methods by which gambling takes place. The lottery was the most popular at 49 per cent with live spots at 17 per cent. Bingo came in at 10 per cent and slots at six per cent.
