The GTI show in Taiwan is something of a strange animal these days. The increasing importance of its sister exhibitions in mainland China, reflecting the shift in the manufacturing power base, should relegate the Taipei showpiece to a domestic event – but that hasn't happened.
I spoke to 15 exhibitors on day one of the show who, although expressing concern about the volume, nevertheless exhorted the quality of the people coming through the doors. And those people came from throughout the Asia Pacific region as well as Europe and the Americas.
Within the first couple of hours I spoke to Adrian Drewitz of Bay Tek Games in the US, Marshall Ashdown and Chris McGrath of Australia’s LAI Games, Michael Green of UDC in the UK and John Stergides of UK firm Electrocoin and spotted Tiziano Tredese of Italy’s Elmac and Greg Bacorn of Barron Games in the US as they made their way along the aisles.
So GTI Taiwan may not be the monolith it once was, but it still packs a punch in the international calendar. A full report and pictures will be in the next issue of InterGame. Click here to read my less formal reactions in our blog section of the InterGame website.
