InterGame gets an update on the South African market and learns more about its watchful and considered stance. Dan Snook speaks to operator Guy Caminsky.

THE FEC market in South Africa is a curious thing. Geographically remote at the southern tip of the continent, it is surrounded by other countries without much of an industry to speak of. Its trends are very much operator inspired, influenced from much further afield. That said, it progresses at very much its own pace and, of late, has been relatively static due to a political and economic impasse. The general election in the country last May was somewhat of a watershed moment for an industry that had adopted a cautious “wait and see” policy, Guy Caminsky of The Fun Company told InterGame. Discontent with the ruling ANC party there had led some to believe there might be, for the first time since the end of apartheid, a change in government. While the eventual results proved that not to be the case, investors and businesses there had sat on their hands, waiting to see what would happen. Things have now started to inch ahead again.
