Seven men have been jailed for a total of 11 years for their part in a plan to steal cash from gaming machines at motorway service areas across the UK.

Motorway service area giant Moto Hospitality has "welcomed the conviction" having invested heavily in technology while working closely with gaming machine manufacturers to help Thames Valley Police catch the group of men.

Tim Moss, Moto’s CEO, said: "We’re delighted that this gang has been put behind bars and we’re grateful to the Thames Valley Major Crime Unit for their leadership and hard work that brought this case to a successful conclusion."

Data-capture technology that Moto invested in was able to produce evidence at Oxford Crown Court to show how the men used electronic devices to trick the machines into paying out up to £500 a time, while automatic number plate recognition cameras, installed at every Moto site, were used to monitor the movement of the gang’s vehicles
