Funworld of Austria, developer of the Photo Play touchscreen terminal, believes that 'casual games' are the key to success in the future.

According to Funworld, casual games cannot be narrowed down to a particular genre, but they all have one thing in common - they are short and quick.

Brainteasers, puzzles and virtual card games like Aloha Towers, which is one of Photo Play’s most successful card games, are acting as trend-setters.

Funworld is responding to this trend by targeting new groups, such as older people, women and families, with casual games.

“The business is currently lacking innovation,” commented Denis Richter from Funworld’s player marketing department.

“Up to now, the key to success in the video gaming market has been the creation of sequels. This may still be a good strategy, but only if the sequels are innovative. Most don’t actually differ from their earlier versions.”

Richter added that simple games that use simple user interfaces are experiencing an upward trend.
