An FEC on the roof of a shopping mall in Colombia may be copied at other malls in the country, says its operator Jorge Montero.

His Star Park FEC is in Ciudad Bolivar, with 5,000sq.m and boasts a Ferris wheel dominating the local skyline and built on to the roof of the Paseo Villa del Rio.

Montero told InterGame: “It is an example of how retail and entertainment compliment one-another and now other shopping malls are looking at how their venues can be adapted to this new concept.”

The Montero Family has been in the FEC business in Colombia for over 35 years and has taken its entertainment ideas into many parts of the country’s poorest communities. In this case, Ciudad Bolivar is regarded as a complex and socially deprived part of Bogota, said Montero.

The company has an FEC on the roof of the venue, with the Ferris wheel, electric go-karts and a wide variety of games.  There is also a gym, pool, restaurants and even a football pitch at the venue, all part of the mall. The Star Park Games area, operated by Montero, actually opened a year ago, but was halted during the pandemic and has only now re-opened for business.

The flexibility of the system used at the venue enables it to cover the karting track and remove the games to establish a concert venue in the space.

Now the Montero Family is working on a new venue at Medellin at the Mayorca Shopping Mall.
