Two similar-sized family entertainment centres are set to open just across the street from each other in the US state.

Santikos Evo

Santikos Entertainment, a theatre complex operator has had plans for some time to open an FEC in Cibolo, Texas but since it mooted its project, rival operator, Evo Entertainment Group tabled its own concept.

Santikos is due to open in May and gave preview tours of its 87,700sq.ft venue last week while EVO’s 73,000sq.ft location is opening on March 8.

The Santikos complex will feature 12 screens with some using the chain’s AVX format (large screen, laser projection and Dolby Atmos sound), 1,500 reclining seats, 16 bowling lanes, laser tag, a VR arena and a full-service bar and restaurant. An outdoor live music venue was originally planned but has been shelved. Evo’s new multiplex  also features bowling lanes, an arcade, laser tag and virtual reality experiences. The project has 10 screens and two EVX auditoriums, Evo’s version of IMAX. Guests will be treated to at-seat service in the screens.

“We’re an entertainment company, not a movie theatre company,” EVO chief executive Mitchell Roberts said.

“Santikos’ business model is centred around the community, patrons’ experience and founder John L Santikos’ legacy,” Andrew Brooks, Santikos’ director of strategy and innovation said.

He added: “We’re going to let (the model) speak for itself when we open the doors, and this community’ll get to pick.”
