Six years short of its centenary, the famous Toshimaen amusement park in Tokyo has closed down.

The park opened in 1026 with over 30 attractions and rides that included a wooden carousel specially imported from Germany nearly 50 years ago.
The location had the world’s first lazy river installed in its water park section in 1965 and over the years the park was notable for many "firsts".
There were long lines of guests for the park’s final day and for the official closing ceremony. Much of the land upon which the park stands has been bought up by the local authority as the site for a new Harry Potter theme park that will open in 2023.
