FECs and other attractions in Australia and New Zealand are not affected by Covid-19, for the most part.

Industry veteran Malcolm Steinberg said: “With no community-transmitted infections for several months, all of the venues are open and few of them have any restrictions of any kind, because the federal and state governments have managed the pandemic well. The total number of deaths in the entire country is only at 900, with 700 of them in the state of Victoria.”

Operators report that sales have been strong over the festive season and all of the trends appear to be positive.

The view is echoed by Bruce Colbourne of AMD, the distribution company in Sydney. He told us: “The borders are open to all states, except some ‘hotspot’ areas of the larger cities like Sydney and Melbourne. If you are from those areas, you cannot travel interstate.

“Most FECs, pubs, clubs, cinemas and bowling centres are operating under different rules now, with staff wearing masks and customers keeping two metres apart, but at least they are operating. “
