The state prime minister, Annastacia Palaszczuk, said that the funds would support companies such as Village Roadshow, Ardent Leisure and Currumbin Wildlife Sanctuary to keep their staff while they await support from banks and from the federal government.

Said Palaszczuk: “These are among the biggest employers on the coast. Tourism is finding it tough right now. It is crucial that we work with the private sector to ensure that they get their business back soon.”

The companies named operate Sea World, Warner Bros Movie World and Dreamworld, two of Australia’s biggest attractions.
