Travelling arcades, as well as rides and other attractions, will be easier to take to Britain’s fairgrounds following intervention by the government’s Competition and Markets Authority.

The CMA investigated the way in which the Showmen’s Guild of Great Britain controlled the content of travelling fairs.

As a result the Guild agreed to change its rules to make it easier for non-members to gain space in an event. The CMA felt that the Guild had been protecting some showmen and not "providing a level playing field for others" who might be able to offer a better service to the public.

Effectively, said the CMA, the rules blocked non-members from attending the majority of fairs in the UK.
