DreamWorks Animation has its sights set on Shanghai, China, and is planning to open a new operation in the region, in order to target the country's booming film market.
It has been reported that US-based RSR Partners has been assigned to recruit a president and other staff members for the new business, but it is not yet known when the Chinese venture will open. All that is known is that DreamWorks is looking to establish a production and development presence and its chairman Lewis Coleman is thought to have met with the state-owned China Film Group recently.
China limits its number of imported films to 20 per year, so foreign media companies are increasingly collaborating with local media partners to set up joint ventures in the country.
