Cuerden Leisure, Trevor Hemmings' company, owner of a number of leading piers across Britain and a major operator of arcades and gaming machines, made a loss of £2.6m on turnover of £35.9m for the year to March. This was partly due to a write-down of £2m on discontinued operations.

Hemmings’ Six Piers company, part of the group, made a return to profit. Losses of £7.3m. in the previous year were turned into a pre-tax profit of £174,000 on a turnover of £9.6m.

The company owns the three piers at Blackpool and others at Llandudno and Eastbourne, having recent disposed of the South Parade pier in Portsmouth. Eastbourne Pier is currently undergoing a £250,000 refurbishment which will enable it to hold conferences for up to 250 people.
