The increasing incidence of illegal gaming machines in street locations in Texas, US, has become the focus of a new partnership between the American Gaming Association and the Association of Gaming Equipment Manufacturers.

They reckon that the state has between 100,000 and 150,000 eight-liner and slots, all illegally operated.

The crackdown will come in four sectors, sports and online betting, black market machines and internet sweepstakes cafes. The associations hope to compile “actionable intelligence which can be utilised by the authorities.”

Legal gaming in the US is a $240bn industry supporting 1.7 million jobs and creating $38bn in taxes across 40 states. The two organisations will seek to clearly distinguish between that and the unregulated and illegal business.
