Video arcade operators and manufacturers could see a slump in sales, as the country's gamers spend a whopping £1.52bn on home console titles in just one year.

Sales of video games in the UK have risen 25 per cent on last year and are now at an all-time high, with more than 78 million titles sold.

More than 11 million consoles were sold in the third quarter of 2007, up 33 per cent on the previous year, as consumers flock to new machines such as the Wii, PlayStation 3 and the Xbox 360.

Games like Super Mario Galaxy, Bioshock, Call of Duty 4 and Halo 3 have all won numerous awards and games on consoles now account for 79 per cent of all software sales in the UK.
