Last week saw the release of the IMD World Annual Competitiveness Report and it revealed that the UAE Government’s initiatives to make its economy one of the world’s most competitive may be paying dividends.

For the first time the UAE is listed first in 20 sub-indices and the second ranking in nine positions. The Swiss-based business analytical group’s report showed that the UAE had moved from seventh overall in 2018 to fifth, a reflection of the UAE Government’s business efficiency indices and its technology and scientific infrastructure.

It is the third year in succession that the country has improved its position in the rankings. In fact, KSA achieved the largest leap in the rankings, up 13 places to 26th, notably with high scores for investment in education. Qatar rose four places to 10th.
