Every adult is expected to spend £3,322 on experiences such as holidays and live entertainment.

The study, by Barclays, said that consumers are moving away from retail and other activities and are seeking other experiences such as holidays, sporting events, concerts and days out.

Specifically, the study said that "competitive socialising" such as bowling, darts and mini-golf are finding new favour.

Separating the activities, the study notes that beach or seaside trips will take up £143.124; amusement activities such as theme parks, zoos and aquariums will absorb £53.16; and competitive socialising will account for £37.44.
