The current downturn in retail and consequent boom of leisure activities replacing them has seen the world’s largest theatrical producer, Cirque du Soleil, enter the FEC market.

The group plans to open its first venue inside a mall in the Greater Toronto area of Canada in September 2019 under the Creactive brand.

Specially designed for retail locations, the recreational centres will offer a “brand new immersive, creative and participative family experience, where people can stretch their imagination, flex their muscles, explore newfound circus skills, and take a bow on the virtual Cirque du Soleil stage,” according to a recent press release.

The new indoor centres are slated to be installed in locations of approximately 2200sq.m and will offer a range of acrobatic, artistic and other Cirque du Soleil-inspired recreational activities, such as bungee jumping, aerial parkour, wire and trampolines, mask design, juggling, circus track activities and dance.

Cirque du Soleil Entertainment Group has partnered with real estate developer, Ivanhoé Cambridge, in the venture and the pair are currently in discussions for additional locations in Canada, as well as with other partners for international markets.
