The long-time president and CEO of Canadian cinema and family entertainment centre operator Cineplex will retire at the end of next year.

Ellis Jacob will officially step down and retire on December 31, 2026. The early announcement will allow Jacob to continue to lead Cineplex and assist the transition to new leadership.
Jacob was the recipient of the Canadian Cinema and Television Tribute awards at the 2025 Canadian Screen Awards and was honoured by the National Association of Theatre Owners with the NATO Marquee Award in 2022. He has also received the Order of Canada and the Order of Ontario.
Jacob said: “After thoughtful consideration, I welcome this next chapter. For decades, I have been focused on making Cineplex a great Canadian company and I move forward with immense pride in what we've built for generations of Canadian movie fans who come to us for those magical moments of escape that can only be found in a true theatre experience.
“I remain committed to working with the board and the talented team at Cineplex during this transition period and have unwavering confidence in Cineplex's bright future.”
Cineplex was a previous owner of distributor Player One Amusement Group, before it sold it to OpenGate Capital in February 2024. It has since been sold to Genda.
