China plans to issue its first comprehensive rules for the lottery industry next year, aiming to stamp out a growing tide of fraud, according to the state-run Xinhua news agency.

Lottery-related crimes in China have also been on the rise, and underground schemes have become rampant across the country in recent years.

Calls for publishing regulations or even a law on lottery supervision have been voiced repeatedly in recent years.

At present, the country has only a provisional regulation on the management of lottery distribution and sales, which was issued by the Ministry of Finance in 2002.

“The regulation is expected to be issued next year, a result of the growing public attention and acceleration of the legislation process,” Xinhua quoted Ding Feng, deputy head of the Legislative Affairs Office of the State Council, as saying.
