The clamour for all things retro shows no sign of abating. The latest '80s classic to get the reboot treatment is Atari’s Centipede.

Centipede

Spotted by Arcadeheroes.com, the title appears to be a videmption game, on test at a Dave & Buster’s in New York State.

Centipede is the latest Atari licence to make the arcades, with Coastal’s Atari Breakout and UNIS’ Pong having had the treatment.

This latest classic reimagine is believed to be the work of redemption experts ICE and Halo: Fireteam Raven contributors, Play Mechanix.

The game apparently still has the same gameplay concept as the original but now has the addition of power-ups, while the supporting up to three players at once via joysticks, rather than the trackball of old.

The control panel on the image calls the game "Centipede Chaos," while the marquee just says Centipede, but given that it is a location test, it's likely that the marquee will change for the production version.

The newly-added joysticks appear to resemble the mushrooms found on the in-game playfield and a large monitor, probably 65ins displays the action.

With two big shows upcoming in Las Vegas and Dubai, it’s possible that the game may appear at one of these events.
