The California Entertainment Machine Association is taking legal advice following the actions of state governor Gavin Newsom in banning players from using amusement machines and jukeboxes.

The Covid-19 restrictions apply to machines in bars, restaurants and other locations and the association says that the action is "arbitrary and capricious."

It points out that many kiosks are permitted to operate in the state while amusement machines have been forced to close down. At the same time, wineries and vineyards can operate but breweries and bars are closed and FECs offering arcade games and other attractions are in danger of permanent closure.

It particularly argues that kiosks offering games from the California Lottery are permitted to operate, which it says illustrates the state’s "inconsistent treatment of businesses."
