The organiser of the European Amusement and Gaming expo, EAG, told InterGame yesterday, that the possibility of a new casino show opening next door to EAG would not be a threat.

Martin Burlin, who manages the EAG on behalf of UK trade association BACTA, responded to the proposals by Reed Exhibitions and its customer the American Gaming Association to run a new G2E Europe show at ExCel. He noted that the proposal was to use exactly the same third-week January dates which are set for EAG.

The battle for a European casino show between the current ICE Totally Gaming owners, Clarion Events, and Reed Exhibitions is outlined in this column’s InterGaming section below.

Burlin recognised that the Reed proposal to put a new European show into ExCel could have overlaps with the EAG product lines. “We have a contract with ExCel which takes us through 2013. The contract prohibits the exhibiting of certain product lines which have previously been shown at EAG, and those product types have been specifically named. Under the contract, they would not be able to be exhibited at another exhibition in the same location on the same dates. We are comfortable with that.”
