After much campaigning, tenpin bowling centres - and casinos - in England have been permitted to reopen.

They had been prepared to open their doors again on August 1, but a spike in infection rates caused the UK government to delay the move.

Bowling centres, casinos and skating rinks are among the businesses that will be permitted to reopen - with safety protocols - from Saturday, August 15.

An immediate reaction came from Stephen Burns, CEO at Hollywood Bowl in the UK, who said: “We have been ready to reopen in a government-approved Covid-secure way for many weeks and our trained teams are eager to get back to work. Our centres are spacious and well-suited for social distancing and we have put in place wide-ranging hygiene and sanitisation measures.”

Shares in Hollywood Bowl and in the other major UK bowling company, Ten Entertainment, reacted strongly on the stock market. Hollywood Bowl’s shares rose 7.9 per cent immediately and Ten Entertainment’s rose by 4.1 per cent.
